Champions of Our Time wins N1million disability prize at the 2015 Homevida Awards

On Friday December 4, 2015 the 6th edition of the Nigeria Integrity Film Awards took place at Victoria Crown Plaza Hotel, Victoria Island Lagos. This year, HomeVida in partnership with the School of Media and Communications, Pan Atlantic University launched the Creative Film Project.

The Creative Film Project is an initiative developed by the School of Media and Communication and HomeVida to provide young and upcoming scriptwriters with an online database to store their scripts. It also includes training and professional support for scriptwriters to help them convert their scripts into films. The primary objective of the Creative Film Project is therefore to bridge the gap between talented scriptwriters and the film industry.

Hosted by the beautiful Nollywood Actress, Kate Henshaw and the ever gorgeous OAP and Vlogger,WanaUdobang, the 2015 HomeVida Awards was indeed a night to remember as members of the Nigerian Film industry (Nollywood) as well as top government officials and policy advocates were in attendance. It kicked off with a cocktail at 6pm presenting a networking opportunity among the guests present. Some of the guests include the Director General, National Film and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB),Ms. Patricia Bala; Deputy Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation in Nigeria, Richard Young; Deputy Public Affairs Officer, Lagos Consulate, Frank Sellin; Representative of the Director General, National Copyrights Commission (NCC) Mr. Chris Nkwocha; Nollywood Director and Producer, Elvis Chuks; Nollywood Producer and Actress, IyaboOjo and HomeVida Ambassador, Blossom Chukwujekwu.

The guests were forced to their feet with electrifying performances by sultry soul singer, Timi Dakolo.

 

The Short Script Competition winners were presented with their awards, TomiAdesina (writer of ‘Feisty John’) for Right, Freedom, Safety and Security Category, Uzo Stephanie Ifeoma (writer of ‘Believe’) for the Economic and Social Impact Category and Musa Jeffery David (writer of ‘Life in a Day’) for the Reputation Management Category, all endowed by Google. Feisty John and Life in a Day were premiered at the event as well as a winning script from the 2014 short script competition ‘Lost Children’ which was written by Tunde Apalowo and endowed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

In the Feature Film Category, Champions of our Time by Chidi Nwokeabia, won the Disability Film Prizeendowed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It was shortlisted for the prize alongside the 2015 IyaboOjo Production ‘Beyond Disability’. This is the second time ‘Champions of our time is winning on the HomeVida platform as it had previously won in the 2011 Family Friendly Category.
